Pressure Test
CAP PRESSURE TEST
Division of Motor Vehicles technicians may perform a test of your vehicle to detect any leakage of fuel vapors from the fuel system. This test is performed on 1975 or newer gasoline-powered vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of 8,500 pounds or less registered in New Castle or Kent Counties. The test requires your vehicle’s hood and fuel cap be opened.

The test will determine if your vehicle’s fuel cap is working efficiently and will detect any leaks in your gas tank or hoses from the tank to your vehicle’s engine compartment. Fuel or fuel vapor leaks in addition to being a major safety hazard, are one of the major contributing factors to Delaware’s air quality problems.
