Governor Ruth Ann Minner was joined by Delaware's Department of Agriculture Secretary Michael Scuse, Division of Motor Vehicle's Director Michael Shahan, Senator James Vaughn and Representative Bethany Hall-Long today as she unveiled Delaware's new Agricultural Farmland Preservation License Plate.
The new plate was designed by Wilmington illustrator Andrew T. Lendway. His design was selected from 32 entries that were judged by The Department of Agriculture's Farmland Preservation Contest Committee. Representative Bethany Hall-Long and Senator James Vaughn sponsored the legislation that created the new plate and contest to design the tag's image.
Since the inception of Farmland Preservation, Delaware is number one in the nation in the percentage of land permanently protected from development, reserving this land for agricultural-use only. Over 76,000 acres are protected on 411 farms statewide.
The cost of the new tag will be $50.00 plus any additional registration fees. $15.00 will be used by DMV to administer and promote the sale of the plate while $35.00 will be placed in the Delaware Farmland Preservation Fund.
